Coffee Freshness
Be sure to buy your coffee fresh from a quality supplier, because the time between roasting and brewing can be one of the most important factors in reflecting a coffee’s flavor. Kona coffee beans should be packaged in an air tight and moisture proof bags or containers. It is important to grind your beans every time prior brewing your cup of coffee. Be sure to store your coffee in an airtight bag in a cool and dry space.
Kona Coffee Grinding

Because of influence of proper grinding on a coffee’s flavor, it is essential to match your grinding with your brewing method. False grind can create over/under-extraction, which can result in bitter or watery taste. There are 5 different grinds for 5 most used brewing methods:
- Turkish – Extra fine grind
- Espresso – Fine grind
- Drip – Medium grind
- French press – Medium coarse
- Percolator - Coarse
Water and Coffee Makers
Water has a very important impact on quality of your cup of coffee. Ninety nine percent of your cup of coffee is water so the better the water quality the better your coffee will be. Bottled or purified water makes the best coffee. Hard or alkaline water does not directly harm flavor but will mess with natural flavor acids.
Cone-system drip coffee makers or French presses are highly recommended for brewing Kona coffee. It is recommended that you use one rounded teaspoon per six-ounce cup of spring or purified water. Of course using more coffee makes a stronger brew.
